"Combinations"

In a continuation of my process for my show I decided to add two new pieces to the performance. I was debating for a while if I should continue making blue pieces but then I thought "ehh.. why not orange"?   With these two pieces I wanted to be a bit more minimal so my audience could be drawn to color and form. I still can't get these triangles out of my head so I'm thinking they are here to stay at least for this piece. The intricate process of making these two color combo's became such a struggle, with 6 pattern pieces, two values of orange, two values of red, and the combination of the two I was left with an odd number of values to play with. The challenge was interesting and fun and as a kind of weird inside joke with myself I decided to name the performance & piece Combinations. My was decision based mostly on the fact that by 2 a.m. in the dye studio that was the only word I could mutter out loud to anyone. Anyway, here is some of my process for the making of this piece taaaa daaa, enjoy.

With the show date right around the corner I don't think I ever really take breaks from thinking about my thesis work, but I guess you can say I take little side project breaks (if you consider that a break at all). This is a chill piece that I'm thinking about submitting to my school's annual fund raiser Art Unleashed.  Sometimes I feel a little awkward making work for shows like this because I never know what kind of audience to expect. However, at the end of the day I'd like to be able to say that I make statement pieces for statement making kind of people. Fun fashion for wild people. Anyway's I whipped this up in a few hours after a week of deliberation, here is proof of why hoarding old fabric that you dyed just for fun with no purpose is never a bad idea!

(Unedited shots)

I'm still working on another piece for the show but I'll be sure to keep you posted if any changes come up.   : ) Art Unleashed  will take place here in Philadelphia 4/9-4/15, click the link to the left for the rest of the details.

Rencontre: The Creative Process

It has been a long journey but I have finally refreshed my Blogger page, I've been working on my senior thesis for the University of the Arts Craft & Material Studies show opening May 2, 2014. I will be featuring my work from the past & present, as well as inspirations that I feel inform my creative process. I'll be sharing bits and pieces of my adventure along the way with hopes that you can enjoy the in betweens as much as I do. Feel free to leave feedback or ask questions, and I will be sure to keep you updated.
